Year 5 Synonym Matching Activity 3

Teacher Specific Information

This Year 5 Synonym Matching Activity 3 provides an opportunity for pupils to increase their range of vocabulary in a fun and interactive way. Pupils need to find synonym pairs by turning over and memorising the position of the vocabulary cards. They can also add a competitive element by repeating the game and trying to beat their previous time. Some of the words used are taken from the Year 5/6 Spelling List.

Whilst we know the terminology and objectives for ‘synonyms’ and ‘antonyms’ are not introduced until Year 6, we are aware that teachers in other year groups also cover this in order to expand children’s range of vocabulary.
