Year 4 Reasoning Test Practice 3

Teacher Specific Information

This Year 4 Reasoning Test Practice 3 activity checks pupils’ understanding of calculating fractions of amounts, solving place value problems, calculating the area and perimeter of 2D shapes, comparing fractions and ordering decimals. After answering the question, pupils may need to select an appropriate explanation for their answer.
Pupils will calculate the fraction of an amount, calculate the area and perimeter to choose the correct statement, identify equivalent fractions, calculate 1,000 more or less than a given number and order decimals.

National Curriculum Objectives

Number – number and place value
(4N2a) Order and compare numbers beyond 1,000
(4N2b) Find 1,000 more or less than a given number

Number – Fractions (including decimals)
(4F2) Recognise and show, using diagrams, families of common equivalent fractions
(4F8) Compare numbers with the same number of decimal places up to two decimal places
(4F10a) Solve problems involving increasingly harder fractions to calculate quantities, and fractions to divide quantities, including non-unit fractions where the answer is a whole number

Measurement
(4M7a) Measure and calculate the perimeter of a rectilinear figure (including squares) in centimetres and metres
(4M7b) Find the area of rectilinear shapes by counting squares
