Year 3 Synonym Matching Activity 2

This Year 3 Synonym Matching Activity 2 presents children with a number of vocabulary cards that need to be clicked to reveal the word underneath. The position of each card needs to be memorised in order to find and match the correct pairs. This game covers the Year 3/4 objective to use root words to understand new words that they meet. Whilst we know the terminology and objectives for ‘synonyms’ and ‘antonyms’ are not introduced until Year 6, we are aware that teachers in other year groups also cover this in order to expand children’s range of vocabulary.

Apply their growing knowledge of root words, prefixes and suffixes (etymology and morphology) as listed in – see English appendix 1, both to read aloud and to understand the meaning of new words they meet.
