Year 3 Punctuating Direct Speech

Teacher Specific Information

This Year 3 GPS Punctuating Direct Speech activity checks pupils’ understanding of inverted commas to punctuate direct speech. Children will identify the words contained within inverted commas, identify which sentences use inverted commas correctly, punctuate speech, identify whether a sentence has been punctuated correctly or not and rearrange the words and punctuation to form a correctly punctuated sentence.

This activity is linked to the Classroom Secrets Year 3 GPS scheme of work.
Questions in this activity are based on the content in Spring Block 3 Step 2 on the Classroom Secrets website, where you can find more resources.
