Reception Identifying 2D Shapes within 3D Shapes Game

Teacher Specific Information

This Reception Identifying 2D Shapes within 3D Shapes Game will help children to make links between 2D and 3D shapes. The aim of this game is to encourage children to identify flat 2D shapes with solid 3D shapes. Children need to drag and drop the correct shape into the box. It may be useful to provide real-life objects to represent the shapes.

Development Matters

40 – 60 Months
(MS-8) Beginning to use mathematical names for ‘solid’ 3D shapes and ‘flat’ 2D shapes, and mathematical terms to describe shapes.
(MS-9) Selects a particular named shape.

Early Learning Goal
(ELG12) (ELG12) Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language
to describe them.
