Reception Estimation Game

Teacher Specific Information

This Reception Estimation Game encourages children to estimate the quantities in a range of images. The game features seven questions, each across three slides. The first slide of each question allows children to briefly look at the image and estimate the amount of sweets in the jar. Please note, supporting adults are required to move onto the next slide when appropriate. The second slide of each question asks children to ‘make a sensible guess’ and discuss their estimate with a partner. The final slide in the set requires children to count the objects to check the answer.

40 – 60 Months
(MN-22) Estimates how many objects they can see and checks by counting them.

Early Learning Goal
(ELG11) Children count reliably with numbers from 1 to 20, place them in order and say which number is one more or one less than a given number. Using quantities and objects, they add and subtract 2 single digit numbers and count on or back to find the answer. They solve problems, including doubling, halving and sharing.
