Reception Animal Environments

Teacher Specific Information

This Reception Animal Environments Game helps children identify different environments or habitats and the animals that inhabit them. Children need to drag the animals from the left to match their environments or habitats on the right. It may be useful to also identify how the environments vary from one another. Children may wish to use craft materials to recreate an environment of their choice.

Development Matters

40 – 60 Months
(UW-TW6) Looks closely at similarities, differences, patterns and change.

Early Learning Goal
(ELG14) Children know about similarities and differences in relation to places, objects, materials
and living things. They talk about the features of their own immediate environment and how environments
might vary from one another. They make observations of animals and plants and explain why some things
occur, and talk about changes.
