Reception 2D Shape Matching Game
Teacher Specific Information
This Reception 2D Shape Matching Game will help children to recognise 2D shapes. Encourage children to find two cards that match to win a pair. Children need to find a ‘real-life’ object and match it to a 2D shape, for example, a door matches with a rectangle.
40 – 60 Months
(MS-8) Beginning to use mathematical names for ‘solid’ 3D shapes and ‘flat’ 2D shapes, and mathematical terms to describe shapes.
(MS-9) Selects a particular named shape.
Early Learning Goal
(ELG12) Children use everyday language to talk about size, weight, capacity, position, distance, time and money to compare quantities and objects and to solve problems. They recognise, create and describe patterns. They explore characteristics of everyday objects and shapes and use mathematical language
to describe them.
