Phonics Phase 5 Rhyme Matching Game
Teacher Specific Information
This Phonics Phase 5 Rhyme Matching Game will help children learn more about words that rhyme. They need to find two pictures that rhyme to win the pair, for example, claw and draw. You could ask children to think of extra words, either real or made up, and these may not follow the same spelling pattern, e.g. floor, more, saw. The words in the game are phonetically decodable so you could ask children to write the rhyming strings.
This game features the rhyming pairs: bone/cone, snake/cake, tray/hay, hide/slide, bees/cheese and draw/claw.
Development Matters
40 – 60 Months
(LR-17) Continues a rhyming string.
Early Learning Goal
(ELG9) Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.
