Phonics Phase 2 Rhyming Game

Teacher Specific Information

This Phonics Phase 2 Rhyming Game will help children develop their understanding of words that rhyme. Words have been chosen that children may be able to spell phonetically. Children need to drag the pictures into the box to complete a rhyming set. It may be beneficial to the children if, at the end of each slide, they stated all the rhyming words in the set in order to reinforce the part of the word that sounds the same.

This game features the following rhyming sets:
mat, cat, hat and bat.
gap, cap, tap and map.
can, fan, man and pan.
fin, tin, pin and bin.
hug, bug, rug and mug.

Early Learning Goal
(ELG9) Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.
