Phonics Phase 2 Rhyme Matching Game

Teacher Specific Information

This Phonics Phase 2 Rhyme Matching Game will help children learn more about words that sound the same. They need to find two pictures that rhyme to win the pair, for example, mat and bat. You could encourage children to think of extra words, for example sat, pat, cat. The words chosen are phonetically decodable so you could ask some children to write a rhyming string.

The game includes the rhyming pairs:
mat and bat
gap and cap
man and can
fin and pin
hug and rug
pig and dig

Early Learning Goal
(ELG9) Children read and understand simple sentences. They use phonic knowledge to decode regular words and read them aloud accurately. They also read some common irregular words. They demonstrate understanding when talking with others about what they have read.
