Compare and Order Fractions Video Tutorial

Teacher Specific Information

In this Compare and Order Fractions Video Tutorial, Martin shows pupils how to find the lowest common multiple of the denominators of two or more fractions. This can then be used to convert the fractions so they have the same denominator. Once the fractions have a common denominator, they can then be compared using the numerator. Martin then moves onto using the same principle to show pupils how to find a common numerator, meaning the denominators can then be used to compare the fractions. Martin uses a variety of mathematical vocabulary, such as denominator, numerator, fractions, compare, order and lowest common multiple.

This video will be useful for children to watch at home or for extra support as part of an intervention, or whole class activity.
