This Year 6 Short Division Maths Challenge aims to develop pupils’ ability to divide 4-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers using the short or ‘bus stop’ method. Pupils will help Pollyanna determine how many people can sit at each table using division. This problem solving activity supports deeper understanding of the objective.

Number – addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Mathematics Year 6: (6C7c) Divide numbers up to 4 digits by a two-digit number using the formal written method of short division where appropriate, interpreting remainders according to the context
